43.9 MPG from my new DTi
« on: 19 April 2009, 14:22:04 »

Well i went up to Bradford yesterday to fetch my new car, picked it up from the garage, set the trip and then fought through the traffic to get to the otherside of the city to go and see my uncle and aunt, fought back through the traffic to get onto the M1 and set the cruse at 80 and headed home, came off the motorway and did another 20miles across country and pulled up outside home, checked the avg cons and it showed 43.9, am i a happy boy, you bet. The car drove faultlessly home and pulls very well, much better than i had expected. I will miss some of the toys from the Elite but its a smallprice to pay. Just off out to put some wax on it and sort out the camera and post up some pics.  :y :y

Will this effect the MOT? As previously mentioned, have heard mixed reports about the re-mapping  :-/

Had mine re-mapped & it made a quite a dfference. I recently removed the cat & welded some nice pipe in its place. The tunner who re-mapped it said diesels don't need cats. Do for me :y :y

I've always been under the impression that diesels dont need cats too!

I know that they need to pass a smoke test though, so depends how much she smokes!  ;D

My 2.5 failed miserably on the smoke test come MOT, but just ran Diesel Magic through (straight into a new filter) and put old chip back in to fix that!

Also try BP/Shell fuel, super market stuff seams to make diesels smoke

Yup, as Tunnie says, for a tank or 2 before MOT, try to fill up with decent fuel. Also, if possible, a good ragging before hand ::).

Now for you, Mr Platty, may I recommend that downhill stretch down to Quy, turn around and then come back up. WOT of course (remeber to slow for the cameras on the 3 lane bit though ::))

I know it very well - It has seen some WOT in the past, maybe I should make it my official Pre-MOT test route...  ;D

I had a Rover 2.0 diesel break its stated top speed by around 15mph (on the clocks) UP that long incline ::)

That said, I had my first 1.8 Belmont reading twice the speed limit going DOWN that hill, in my younger, irresponsible days ::)
