Oyster Satellite Systems
« on: 30 June 2009, 06:23:20 »

When we went to Morton-in-Marsh caravan site the weekend before last, the TV reception was described as 'poor', no exaggeration, it was next to useless.

Had a quick look at the general direction everyone was pointing there sat. dishes, stuck my Aldi dish on the roof, aimed it roughly in the same general direction, and, bingo, a perfect digital signal, first time!

Shortly, after we arrived, a brand new camper van parked next to us, they got set up, then this dirty great Oyster Sat. dish appears out of the roof (it would have put Goonhilly to shame), and starts going round like a ships radar.

This went on for about an hour, with the guy popping out of the van periodically, to see what was happening.

Ended up buying a cable from the site Warden, and plugging into to site socket, analogue signal only.

Goes to show, its not all about spending the most money!

Can you just buy a dish off the shelf then and put it on your house? Do you also need to buy a decoder of some description or will it work with a digi-box? Sounds interesting...

You need a decoder, won't work with a digi box.

when Sky came out years ago I bought one of the first Amstrad dishes and receivers and a Sat finder and fitted it myself and picked up the signal straight away.   Tuning in to satellites is a lot easier than it seems as the footprint of the signal is quite large.
