Doctors doing an impression of banks.

Remember when we used to go down to our local banks and get some money, beg a loan or even pay something in? A thing of the past, of course. All done on line now.

I went to the docs today. She said my prescription would be ready Monday, pick a form up from reception on the way out. Form? I thought.

The receptionist asked my name then gave me my logon details. Wha? You dont have to come in any more unless you actually want to see the doctor. When you log in to your account you can book an appointment, order a repeat script, check your previous appointments, who you saw and why, check which meds you're on etc. etc.

I should have been pleased but, no. My doctors is personal to me, or was :(

And, of course, if I can check all of this, so can any nosey parker with a 'reasonable cause', or any computer literate kid with ten minutes to spare.

Weve been on this system for about 5 years...

I love it.

no more arguing with reception....I just log on, and now I always get an appointment quicker, with my choice of doc, at a time to suit me.

easy for repeats as well.

its all optional, can ring up for anything as well.

That's old info. My verruca fell off with various other bits over the past years. ;D

I opted out of the national NHS database,dont trust government agencies with personal info.I dont tell anyone connected to the state anything unless I absolutely have to. ;)

There's a notice up in our Doctors that goes something like this :-

Due to the limited amount of time allocated to an appointment, the Doctor can only treat one ailment.

If you have more than one ailment, consider making additional appointments.

Unbelieveable, if it wasn't true.

my doctor is the best ive ever come across, when i was ill last xmas he rang and asked how i was. he even came to the hospital to give me my gastroscopy. blood tests done at the surgery, results the next morning. excellent service.  :y :y

Sounds like the service is improving. Speaking to a doctor out here and he was saying apparently the NHS is now reaching saturation point with GP's in the UK.

I phoned my doctors last week to make an appointment and they asked if a chat to one of the practice nurses would help. About 3 minutes on the phone and a prescription was waiting at the desk for me to pick up.

If I'd got an appointment with my GP it would have been a case of :

"What's the problem, MR. Wood?"
"The usual"
"Here's your prescription"

So what's the point in wasting his time and mine?

They did give me notification of some online service a few years back but after about 3 attempts to register successfully I gave up. >:(
