One point on this....the insurance companies state "all settlements" are based on trade value....

Replacing my Omega like for like for one in the same cosmetic and mechanical condition would cost £1500-2000, but top book is £915.

Do they not have to put you back in the same position you were in pre-accident?

I would be well out of pocket 

You can always argue the toss. In fact, never accept the first offer. If you provide proof of what they fetch, ie. auction sites or the trader, they will usually come closer to what it's worth.

Interesting point there is that when you apply for insurance they ask the value, what's the point when they wont pay that value.
