We used to have a basic Sky package as we can't get terrestrial digital round here. We cancelled the package after 2 years, which left us with the dish and the box. We still get about 30 channels, but the selection isn't the same as Freesat or Freeview.
Recently, we've started getting messages appearing on some channels saying we need to do something or other to continue watching. Can't seem to find anything on the Sky website which matches our circumstances, but the general idea appears to be that if I send them £20, things will get better. Words like "blackmail" and "extortion" come to mind.
Can anyone explain this to me in words of one syllable? I tried to record Gunfight at the OK Corral from Channel4 +1 yesterday and after 80 minutes or so, up pops this stupid message, and bang goes my recording.

Give us a clue.
Can't remember, and I deleted the recording. It was something like "For continued viewing on this channel please look at
www.sky.com/replacementcard".
Been getting similar messages for a couple of months, but nothing has actually changed. Looking up the reference doesn't help, as I can't match the circumstances. Phoning them up would probably help, but after 17 months of unemployment, my mental health is such that I prefer to avoid telephone helpdesks.
