This was from when smoking was common and almost expected, but I know one thing I never will.

I have also seen the addictiveness of tobacco first hand as a friend used to smoke resin occasionally - every couple of weeks or so. Then he tried a joint, eventually ended up buying packets of fags - all because he tried a joint (where they ruin it with tobacco). Last I heard he was still addicted but trying to stop.

I will state here that in a joint the tobacco is the addictive part.

My other half has tried those electronic cig's.  To be honest, don't even bother with them, as they don't last very long, even the better quality ones.  And you'll end up spending more money replacing them, than actually buying the real things.

You could always try this

Wife and I both had them before when we gave up... I went from 20/day to 15 (max)/week using an ecig in between... In fact, I plan to dig them out again when we give up soon :y :y

It took me several years of trying. I used nicotiene gum which i became addicted to. But that was part of the process, i had managed to transfer my addiction away from the act of smoking. After a year on the nico gum i crossed over to ordinary gum, thus transferring my addiction elsewhere again. A year or so later and the laxative effects of my fave minty gum was becomming a pain in the A*** ! so i started to ween myself off. If I could offer constructive advice it would be this

  • Your physical addiction is far easier to deal with than your mental addiction. Use a substitute to keep your cravings happy whilst you deal with the psycological withdrawl.

When you inhale smoke, you inhale deeper thereby you inhale more air as well as smoke. Try breathing deeply (without the fag !) you will find that half of the sensation from smoking is in fact.........fresh air !

The more you talk to people about how you are doing during you current attempt, the more it becomes a topic of conversation, the more it is in your mind, the more you have to think about it, the more likely it is that you will give into temptation.

If you fall off the wagon and start smoking then really go for it ,,,,,,,,seriously,,,,,,puff away till you puke. If you managed to stay off them for 2 weeks chances are if you go directly back to your usual 40 a day habit you wont like it one little bit and wont want to smoke the next day. Have 1 or 2 and you will just slide gradually back into full time smoking.

Dont feel guilty about falling off the wagon, this will just raise you anxiety level and tell your brain to demand nicotein. Accept what you did, understand why you did it and move on.

If you go back to smoking full time, dont tell yourself that you failed, you just have'nt achieved your objective yet  :y
