Cheers Lizzie. She's stood the test of time really well. Everything still works (unlike some of my oher clasics), all windows go up & down, door locks work, dials illuminate, demister works, brakes in a sraight line etc. You have to hang onto the steering as it's a box not rack but they were like that from new. The 78k mileage seems right & i'm keeping this one. If i lived nearer we could do a drive in movie, drink vanilla shakes, cruise the trip then maybe i could drive?

Now that is a true 1960s dream, a lovely one though!

I wish I could have kept at least one of my Cortina's, as they were only two years old, maximum, when we changed to a new one! I still love the one I never had though; the classic metalic gold Cortina Mk2 1600E

I still love your Mk1 though Guy! A pure classic for the reasons you describe. Cars were a lot less complicated then, and the Cortina's, and the Escort's were the prime examples of simple realiabilty.
NEVER Alright, one did, let me down with a faulty alternator, but in total that was over 600K miles with two Escort's Mk1's and 3 Cortina's, Mk3, 4 & 5:-*

It was then onto Vauxhall's!! 8-) 8-)
