Perhaps someone on here can answer this for me please.

I have had sitting at the back of my house a satellite dish for a least the last 11 years (since before we moved in).  I never had an LNB in my time.  I also have a co-axial cable that runs into the house.

I didn't care about this until my son's girlfriend moved in and has brought a Skybox with her.  I have thought that the fitting on the dish was the most difficult part and that is in place.

So my question is:  If I buy an LNB and connect it up will:

a) this set-up potenitially be able to receive Freesat?
b) the dish be pointing in the correct direction to receive transmissions without adjustment?

If the answer is yes to the above, what LNB could or should be bought?  I see that CPC sell LNB from about a fiver up to about £25 with similar and lower prices on eBay.

Some guidance would be appreciated.

The dish may be pointing in the right direction, but the LNB you fit won't unless you have a meter to set it up with or go down the trial and error route for alignment with your chosen satellite..

If the coax cable that presumably isn't connected to an LNB is out in the open at the dish end it will have got damp inside unless it's been properly sealed.

Given that, as said, it will need a new LNB and some alignment, and probably a new run of coax, it might as well all be replaced, IMHO.

If it was all set up with an LNB mounted, I would have said connect up a set top box and try your luck...
