Often seems to happen after an outage change of hamsters. I think it takes the new one a while to get up to speed. :-/

Yes, as per previous posts, until the batteries fully charge on the replacement disk controller, the cache is disabled, causing slow running

You don't believe the forum server is fancy enough to have a battery backed cache controller, or you don't believe battery backed cache controllers take that long to charge the batteries?

[edit] Neat, if you quote a '/me' post, it changes to TheBoy instead of the poster who posted it originally..  ;D

The particular controller will not enable its cache until the batteries are fully charged. Not even the read cache, bizarrely. An annoyingly.

Problem is its still moaning thet batteries aren't charged, thus won't enable it, so looks like a new cache battery is needed  :'(
