I'm still trawling the net to locate a replacement Omega (didn't go for the local one as the interior was too neglected). Anyway, I stumbled across the site called carsbymail or similar and the next minute I get this by email:

Before you buy a  Vauxhall Omega (1994 - 2003)  there are  9 common faults or wear items  that you should check for. Our research amongst the experts that work on this specific model everyday, has identified:
- 0 area(s) on the bodywork to inspect
- 4 engine check(s) to make
- 1 wear item(s) to spot on the suspension
- 1 interior item(s) that you need to ensure work
- 3 official recall(s) that should have been completed

I need to pay a fiver to get the info, but I won't. I'll ask here instead.  :y

Were there three official recalls? First I'd heard about it.

1995: static sparking during refuelling. 1995 (16v: VIN R 1000001 to S1155206): fuel feed pipe may chafe. Reposition and clamp into place. 1999: possibility of failure of plastic cambelt idler pulley GF50 on 4 -cylinder 16v engines 1994-98, which can snap cambelt. Changed as an 'in service mod' when cambelts are changed at 35,000-40,000 mile intervals. (Vauxhall Recall Helpline: 01189 458500 or 01582 427200) General problem of ignition steering wheel lock failure, usually replaced FOC. June 2000 recall of V6 models due to crankshaft fault. 2001: TSB about voltage spikes from the alternator damaging the camshaft sensor. This is prevented by unpicking the wiring loom and re-routing the cam and crankshaft sensor cables together around the front of the airbox, keeping them away from the alternator.

What was the V6 crankshaft fault all about then???? :-/

..sorry only found the recalls. Perhaps Mark or TB can enlighten us. :o
