The down side.....
« on: 23 August 2011, 15:51:18 »

Of getting promoted is...... not having Internet access in the room I had to move to, so unable to lurk on forums.
Other th ing is I'm now permanent nights until I get promoted again, maybe 3 or so years.
Anyhoo, I'm now the barge supervisor (nights) and up till tomorrow is going good. Tomorrow I lose my Crane operator and no replacement for 2 weeks, therefore I lose my deck crew to the drilling department, so any work I need to get done will have to wait (so much to do, not enough people to do it)
Very busy in the run up to a major shipyard, all the work we can do is to save having it done in shipyard therefore saving time and money.
The promotion also means I am staying with this rig and not being punted somewhere I may not like (Going back to the North Sea for instance) Chances are we will get a long-ish contract and that should see me good until retirement (depending on how fit I remain) oh and a little extra money of course.

Better off? Yes, in this case I am, not so much the extra dosh but instead of sitting on me arse twiddling my thumbs for most of 12 hours, I'm actually getting some work done and in the process getting to know the rig systems first hand instead of reading about them! Makes it a bit easier to fix things when they go wrong and with a rig this age, they do go wrong, frequently.
Plus I get a team of guys to work for me, I can set myself projects that will make life easier for the marine department and enhance the rig as well. Just need to get them past the rig manager to implement them!!!!
