ok thats enough i think, dont want to worry people too much, me and car are fine. Just wanted to gauge peoples expectation in this situstion.

Answer is..,absalutely nothing at all, well, compared to what i would expect, most alarming thing was a bit of noise, like driving on a rumble strip, which made me back off the power, i thought it was the dif at first as it seemed to respond to throttle input.

Took the bend, it was raining so about 50,bit of a wobble, "ah, must be a puncture" i thought. Stopped imediately got out to find a totaly flat and very steamy rear tyre. I think it went down prety quick, with, as B says, very little drama.

Been to my tyre man this morning, tyre is destroyed, a good half bucket of rubber bits inside and the side wall is all bumpy and miss shapen. At least its the same tyre that was repaired before Newent. A new hole was found old repair still intact even though its very near the side wall.

Got soaked but only 15 minute delay to my journey and i'm so glad i put the spare back in the boot after the lpg conversion.

There is a bill but only for the tyre, 109 +vat, pants and seat are fine. But they are Baige anyway so no worries there.

90mph offside rear blew out, fair amount of noise but the car stayed straight.

I also eased of the power whilst sorting out what had happened, realised it was a puncture and pulled over from the "2nd overtaking lane" to the hard shoulder.

I had just bought the car from a guy in Cheshire, the tyre split right across from one side to the other.

I've had a rear off side tyre blow at speed in the outside lane with virtually no drama, it was on the straight though. the steel belt should keep the general shape of the tyre till you get to the hard shoulder.
It's no fun with the car on a crappy half scissor jack with your back just a few feet from the traffic in the nearside lane while you're changing it.

That's precisely the reason I keep a bottle jack in with my spare wheel, fits very nicely too...  I never have trusted the stupid half scissors, they always look as though they are about to break...

Its intersting though, most on here expecting a terminal situation at that speed...really wasnt a problem. Should add it wasnt a blow out, probably took 30 seconds start to finish.

I tell you what though, i bloody would NOT drive on the shevron areas at the speed those cops where, as he says in the video, all the rubbish, glass, nails, and general foreign objects gather there, asking for trouble, and would be spread back all over the carriageway by them. Not to mention spattering other cars with stones. Bugger that!

Its intersting though, most on here expecting a terminal situation at that speed...really wasnt a problem. Should add it wasnt a blow out, probably took 30 seconds start to finish.

I tell you what though, i bloody would NOT drive on the shevron areas at the speed those cops where, as he says in the video, all the rubbish, glass, nails, and general foreign objects gather there, asking for trouble, and would be spread back all over the carriageway by them. Not to mention spattering other cars with stones. Bugger that!

Agree-asking for trouble-and the cause of the puncture no doubt

sounds scary, esp with other cars baring down on you at silly speeds, given your journey what else to do except fit all season tyres, what do the Germans expect, take a spare set of snow tyre fitted wheels with you and fit them over there? not likely surely?

I think it did not help that the rears were on 3-4mm, the tyres were nasty Federal SS535s and the pressures were increased due to heavy loading.

I took my wife to our new industrial estate in the snow and did some skid training on these Federals, then again when I replaced them with new Talon Sport TR918s-the difference was staggering.

If attempting another winter trip, I'll fit winter tyres.
