Aftermarket crappy parts
« on: 18 February 2010, 04:54:34 »

Just helped a m8 to change the front wishbones on his Elite after a test failure and was disgusted at the condition of them, the ball joints in particular. He had had them done just under 8 months previously but instead of the garage putting the VX ones on he had stipulated they had used the Delphi crap. I have told him to keep both old wishbones and take them and the instruction letter copy he had given the garage before the job back to the garage to see what they say. I have told him that if they bulls**t him to take it to Trading Standards.
It makes me wonder if any of the smaller type of garages can be trusted anymore because there seems to be far too many ready to use cheap parts and charge high prices for shoddy work.
Anyone else suffered by having cheapo parts fitted that have not lasted?

suprised at Delphi tbh. Although i've no experience of them. Someone posted recently they could not source lemforder and settled for Delphi instead.

By "Vx" do you mean vx from a dealer at £230 a side?
...or Lemforder, who supply vx, at £110 a pair from an independant supplier such as Autuvaux?

...and i suppose should ask how much they charged?

Does seem a straight forward case of fitting a cheaper part to increase profit margin, based on on an assumption/distant memory of £70 a pair for Delphi? is that a fair price for Delphi wishbones? Anyone?

He quotes 44+ a side by the looks, so would only give a £22 saving over Lemforder, maybe they couldnt source Lemforder either in your case?

I'm surprised at Delphi too.
Delphi is or was the GM in house parts arm (I think they were spun out and partially reacquired or something like that).
