I will concede, he put up a valiant fight though ;D


The modern beemer diesels are overblown to get the power, so you need to keep them on-song to get the best out of them.  BMW are not alone in this respect.

Must admit that V6 petrols are very good up hills, especially long hills. My 3.2 is worth the poor economy just to see peoples faces as I overtake them up Telegraph Hill in Devon with 1600kg of caravan on the back. That is an example of where high rev torque beats the diesel low rev torque.
The driver of the 330d that you were pitched against was probably cursing because his mpg had dropped below 40mpg. ;D ;D

The acceleration difference was my main point though. :y

yep..general problem for turbos.. once their rev counter hits the bottom , they are out of the game ;D

What year was that though? I find them full of torque, the petrols I don't though  :-/
