Isn't service history good!
« on: 09 December 2010, 15:33:05 »

My car has a fully stamped vauxhall history up to 13/12/2008 by vauxhall and the last one by a local specialist in Dec 2009 at 38068 miles. Im currently on 40910.

Being bored and wondering if all these stamps were genuine i rang up the dealer where the services were undertaken, spoke to a very nice gentleman who told me everything that had been done over the years.

as well as the usual servicing items which were replace every 4000 miles, he saw that they changed the gearbox oil and filter in december 2006 at 24600 miles

He had a few other things done over the years like fuel filter, spark plugs and major service in 2008.

I was planning on getting the ATF changed as i assume it had never been done but now i can breath easy for a few more years years. He even told me how much was spent over the 8 years and it was nearly £3000!!!

I am always suspicious over a stamped service book with no receipts so i can relax now  ;D

Tbh I'd still be doubtful. Just because it's on their computer I don't think it means anything. Probably that they've entered the work on the computer after stamping the service book whether they've done the work or not!

As its a main dealer all the dates tie up with the service stamps so its good enough for me. Pete will continue looking after my car. Rear pads and discs next pete plus a few other bits :y

my car has no service history, its over 11 years old and in my 2 years ownership it hasnt missed a beat

all its old MOTs back up its 60k miles, i got it on 45k, the owner before me bought it at 10 months old and had it for 9 years, had it serviced at his friend's garage who instantly recognised it when i took it to them after i bought it

service history throughout its life isnt too important but i plan on having a major 60k service done next week incase i decide to sell and return to omega ownership

But you missed the point I was trying to make. Just because it's on their computer doesn't mean they did it, just like if it's stamped in the book it doesn't mean anything. I wouldn't trust a dealer as far as I can throw them.

If they stamp the service book to say the work has been done when it hasn't, they will update the computer to say the same.
