Need some serious advice on LPG please
« on: 15 September 2011, 22:56:17 »

My Vectra Estate is not being repaired and this means it is being sold as it is.

However I am now hunting around for a car and have come across a 2003 Vauxhall Omega 2.6V6 with LPG prefessionally fitted, the car has long mot and short tax, is identical to my car in looks but is the CDX spec with cruise and leather and has 200k milea on the closk.

How good on fuel is an Omega 2.6 auto with LPG?

The car is local and very cheap and is a serious contender as I would love to make my household all omega. Although have also made an offer on an X reg Honda in Surrey.

Cheers

If it's a "Professional" Installation it needs checking thoroughly ::) I've only seen 1 that met my standards :-X ::)

As for running costs, been covered many times. I work on a saving of about 10p per mile ;)

If it has 200,000 on the clock it would have to be very cheap indeed. ;)

I was considering offering £400 cash for it outside of Ebay as an option but looking at other cars. My budget tbh is £500 but can stretch a bit. Ideally I want a 2.2 CDTi Estate Manual Omega, but they same very rare.

many types of LPG install, you want to make sure its "sequential" injection, ie the fuel is injected into each cylinder.

There are "mixer" systems which mix air and fuel in the airbox, but these systems are shite for the high reving V6.

LPG is not as an efficient burn as petrol, you need more LPG to get same power from petrol, so LPG MPG is lower (around 20%) but the difference in cost offsets this.

MPG is actually irrelevant, its pence per mile.

On average you will save between 4-8p a mile, but budget on 7p on average.
