Not a debate I am going to get drawn in to, but remember that these countries need security and stability, and they cannot do this alone. The International community need to provide resources and help to provide this.
I know the popularist media, and even the dumbed-down bbc often promote such ideas and 'Bring our Boys Back' campaigns, but the fact remains, International teams need to stay there - a fact that the media never provide an answer to.
Agree with some of it TB but being an ex vet of the Falklands in 1982, I speak from experience of men dying, yes we need security forces out there but there are far too many of our troops commited to that region, other united nations members need to commit more, not always soft touch Britian, we know it was a campaign to rid the dictator but also it was a very good excuse for America to look after their oil supplies, this campaign is going to turn into another Vietnam, with our troops on the end of it, the Falklands was a battle to protect our last bit of the empire, the war in the east is no longer a peace keeping force, we are now there as the enemy, let the 2 goverments sort out Iraq to get their own goverment and own peace keepers in place.
Our boys are dying, get them home asap IMO.
I am still actively involved with my regiment and during the recent floods the goverment could not commit more troops to help as there was far too many commited in the east..
Only my opinion, everyone has the right to that, but I do speak from experience.
