Its only my personal opinion that agrees a phone is a phone

Well, I share that opinion, as do many others, no doubt, despite (perhaps because!) of the fact that I also work in the industry. Still, I hope some people like all the toys because they keep us in employment. :y

Agree  ;D we had "manufacturer x" on site today to demo a potential new hanset they want us to take on and promo all the applications it can run, quicker, faster, slicker blahdy blah.

I dodged that meeting, filled my calander all day with nonsense, terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tireded and went to lunch instead.  ::)

I agree, a phone is a phone. It will never be a camera/media player/whatever.

Saying that, I've learnt how to text now  :P

a phone is much more than that to me....

Email, internet, modem, camera for spur of the moment issues and video for feedback on issues as well.

Calendar and reminder for appointments, MP3 player for when i forget my ipod.

a lot of my use is for business, it saves me lugging a lappy around

and because i am away from home sooooo much i use the video calling a heck of a lot, as a result my bills are £300+ a month regularly  :'(

Actually, I agree, hence I use a Windows phone.

Cameras on phones are my big bugbear, they are crap, always have been, always will be.  I'd happily drop the camera.  Mrs TheBoy is not allowed a camera at her work (car R&D site), makes getting a new handset for her a right PITA

Ahh, that's the key, I suspect.

If I were travelling around I'd be looking for excuses not to lug around a Laptop too. Great for cheapo Tech 2 and demoing stuff that absolutely requires a PC but far too clumsy for checking email IMHO.

Yep. Still, the megapixel watchers will clamour for the latest one even though the cr@p lens is incapable of resolving anything like the detail the megapixel rating suggests ;D

I occasionally have to visit sensitive sites and I guess I'll have to start remembering to switch back to the 6310i now >:(

I find my phone camera handy for taking snaps to illustrate a problem in later safety meetings etc.
I always have my phone in my pocket so if I spot an issue I can capture it before it gets rectified, and then have evidence to try and stop it happening again. Granted the quality is a bit dodgy but I don't carry my digi camera at work.

Yup windows phones rock, been using one since the original spv, current work phone is a virgin lobster not the most stylish but at the price great value and a lot more durable than the MDA Pro which I tend to use as a sat nav nowadays.

a certain fruity network who have me locked to a contract for another 6 months.......

you would have thought that after 10 years of custom there would be something they could do........err no  >:(

phone is in my companies name so it cushoins the blow a little

my last bill was a cheap one at £258

1075 text
1800 mins x network
350 video calling
insurance  >:(
and line rental of £55
unlimited GPRS @ £8 (ideal for hooking a lappy up to the internet a i also get HSDP access)

that is a slightly lower than average bill....and they still wont let me upgrade early or give me anything to further reduce my bills

I am on Orange and am generally happy.  Would like to change to one of the new contracts that they have, but am scared to do so in case they force me to get a new phone which I don't want.  Currently I am running a Nokia 6310i.  No colour screen, no Camera, MP3 Player, Radio, Fire Extinguisher, Teas Made etc.  It is a phone that works and that is all I want.  Getting around a weeks battery life - was better when it was new at around a week and a half - two weeks!

A colleague at work has a N95 and he agrees with all the issues that have been raised above!

Keep hold of your old phone. If they make you change phone, get the new phone up and running and then swap the SIM back into your 6310i and carry on as before. Lob the new phone on ebay.

I may still go back to my 6310i...
