Cam Gasket Question
« on: 18 October 2006, 18:27:30 »

Hi All,
My problem is this..I decided to replace my cam cover gaskets only to find only one bank has gone! drivers side..now I know most people would say do both..but as I'm using pattern gaskets (bought before I read the use only vx ones) and I don't want waste £40+ I wondered if i might be better leaving the passenger bank alone? also I managed to destroy my EGR valve gasket (dont ask) is it possible to make one or use a substitute ie liquid gasket?? only my main vx dealer cant get me one untill NEXT WEEK!  >:(

Cheers Gord

Hello there,

I would strongly recommend binning the non-genuine onces, and doing it properly if you think anything of the car :)

How much for pattern ones??
I was quoted £6.50 a cover (4 required) when i first investigated prices.
Yes could just do the one, but with all the effort involved in stripping the plenum and injector bridge off, you might as well do both.  Would only take another hour more.  Don't forget to do the breathers at the same time,

Just got a set for both sides for £27.10. Theyre made by Elring Klinger who supply Vaux according to the seller.

Don't forget you'll also need the relevant 'o' rings and the 'proper' sealant.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

(see original post).

Cheers Gord.

Pattern gaskets cost me £8.50 plus vat..then the 0 rings and injector (bridge gaskets) all in all around £ 45 or there abouts.

They might be made by the same people but, if there the ones in the picture its not the same gasket as genuine......

As for the EGR to plenum, you shoudl be able to use a good Loctite metal-metal liquid gasket.
