   Hi all,
          Can anyone tell me if this kit would be ok to use or is it best to stick to VX parts only.

I would stick to genuine Vx parts for something as critical as a cambelt kit.

Don't forget the water pump, change that at the same time.

I used this kit on mine and I have had no problems with it.

Just make sure you get the right it for your engine number as there are at least two different types.

This seller is a proper engine shop as well, and have been about for years.

There seems to be an obsession with changing water pumps on V6's "just in case". I can kind of see the point when you're doing the job on a 4 cylinder car (although so far my wife's Astra is still going strong on the original water pump) but when the cam belt goes no where near the water pump on a V6 - WHY? What ever happened to "if it aint broke don't fix it"? Unless you're charging yourself for labour it's no cheaper to change the water pump when/if it dies than if you change it with a cam belt. In about 25 years of driving I've had 1 water pump go, & even then if a cam belt had been driven from it, it'd only have got wet.

We did 2 cambelts at the Coventry party a few weeks ago.  I'm pretty sure that we didn't replace either water pump at the time.  Now one of them is having it's water pump replaced this weekend.  You don't have to replace it, depends how you feel about the risk of going back in there soon after to replace it because there is a risk.

Quite simply the water pump costs 25 quid and takes an extra 5 minutes to change.......in reality they are normaly good for high mileage so you may choose to change them at every other cambelt change.

You're right I didn't replace mine & I'm having to do it this weekend. I would change mine every other cambelt, but if I didn't know history, I would change as matter of course for £25 + £6 (coolant), knowing its done. As a bonus, you've done full coolant change as well....

Not done my cambelt yet, but i can see how it would make sense to do the pump at the same time as there is so much stuff in the way, and for the extra £30 for pump & coolant, why spend another day working on the thing when you don't have too.

  Thanks for all your replies.

  I received a Newsletter from AutoVaux today and they now have their products database up and running and give a price of appox. £80 inc. VAT & Del. for a cambelt kit for my car.

 I shell probably go with this one and whilst at it will change the water pump as i don't know the car's history.
