Help - Omega not starting/cutting out

Hi all

After some advice re my 2.5 v6 omega cd.

Had no problems with it until this morning. At first it wouldnt start (normally starts first turn of the key everytime) petrol was low as petrol station was first stop this morning. Managed to get a lift to garage and got some fuel tried it when I got back - before adding fuel - and it started then cut out. Assumed it was the petrol so put in fuel, car wouldnt start.

Left it for a while and started and was running fine to work. Tried it at lunch time and again would not start. Eventually started and managed to get it home.

Tried it again a while a go, it started then cut out and now wont start again - changed fuel injection fuse and all relays, still nothing.

Any suggestions would be great

You may have pulled some crap into the fuel filter

thought maybe fuel filter but relatively new car so no manual yet and cant find the fuel filter, any suggestions? also where is the fuel pump located?

Filter is right at the tank end of the fuel line . I, personally, have never changed one. Some people on the forum say five minutes, others that the clips are a swine. Very cheap to relace, about five quid IIRC.


EDIT: pump is back there somewhere as well, I think!

Two SMALL flat bladed screwdrivers usually does the job, about 20 minutes. Make sure you:

De-pressurise the fuel system, and USE FACE PROTECTION when removing the hoses/clips. I didn't once, and got my eyes full of petrol.

It hurt!

Also read the fault codes.

Non starting/poor starting on the V6 is often due to the crank sensor.....

Many thanks - off out there now lol need it for work tomorrow - luckily have another omega with blown headgasket in the garage waiting to be repaired so maybe nicking a few bits off that one lol

Agreed. But, in this case, the fuel was very low, so probably the best starting point.

De- pressurising the fuel system? how is this done - sorry for sounding dumb - motorbikes more my thing lol

No fault codes coming up and no engine management lights showing.

Also agreed :)

However, need to bear in mind that Omega's will read "0" on the mileage computer for ages, before running out !

That must depend on your perception of 'ages'! As usuall I let my low fuel light come on again tonight and then drove the 20 miles home from work. I filled it to the top once I'd got home and manged to get all but 70 litres in and that was when the computer was telling me I had 10 miles to go. The remaining gallon would have taken me not much more than 20 miles

There is a type of valve on the injector rail? looks like a bigger version of a tyre valve press this in to depressurise.

Ideally the easiest way would be to remove the fuel pump fuse and run the car till it dies but the above should do the same job.

Or start engine and pull fuel pump fuse ;).  Or not bother, and squirt a bit of fuel everywhere ::)

Could even be the fuse as mentioned usually with mine when you turn the key you hear what sounds like its fuel pressure buiding up ready for firing, bad description is yours doing the same when you turn the key :question
