Having read a few topics on people that have put in 3.0 cams into the 2.5 and chipped them, they seem to preform better than the 3.0s even with chips in. Can this be right? I suppose the real question is should I buy a 2.5 or a 3.0 ?
Your views/comments would be most appreciated

Even better.... get a 2.0 8v and put the 3.2 cams in, that's the quickest of the lot

3.0 every time.... funnily enough it's already got the 3.0 cams and there's no substitute for capacity when it comes to driveability. The 2.0 engine in the Honda S2000 produces more power than even the 3.2 Omega engine but I wouldn't fancy trying to actually use it in a car the weight on an Omega with its *peak* torque of about 145 lbft.

BTW I'd add that the gearbox is even more important than the difference between a 2.5 and 3.0... I'd take a 2.5 manual over a 3.0 slushy, but of couse with a 3.0 manual I didn't have to choose . These are quite peaky engines so the much lower ratios and extra gear on the manual box will make a substantial difference. Even the manual is too high geared for the engine IMO, but then again these are not performance cars, even the MV6.

Yeah, the Go Baby Go button makes it a real beast.  I can't imagine a manual being any faster in general use.  There are a few reasons not to get the auto, but being slow is not one of them.  The one exception is if you punch it from 20ish mph.  It will NOT kick down and takes a long time to pick up speed.

I shall try my MV6 - I'm sure mine will kick into first around 20mph...

Manuals are quicker accelerating over a large range of speed due to lower ratios.  There are a few smaller ranges where the auto is quicker...
