only had my omega 4 months now thinking of getting the air con re gassed as there is no gas in it
is there any way of checking if all the working bits  are ok before i take it in


never had air con before????????

Not easily - you really need some kind of gas charge to start seeing things in action and measuring pressures etc.  Having said that, it can be connected to a vacuum pump / gauge to see if there are any leaks and this should be done before recharging.  How do you know that there is *no* gas in the system?  Hopefully your system hasnt been open to the air for any length of time as that might cause problems...

Oh and as an afterthought - a good AC person will check for leaks before recharging anyway ... and shouldnt charge you too much if a leak is found before they start recharging the gas.

The AC system switches itself off if pressure is low, so without gas you can't tell if it is working.

If there is no gas, then there is a leak... the proper procedure would be to fill it first with some test gas (Nitrogen I think) to check for leaks, and once found and rectified then fill it with the correct AC gas/oil combination.

I would be wary about previous owners saying 'it needs a regas', firstly ti is not clear how the gas went missing in the first place, and secondly this is usually a good way to hide and expensive AC reapir..

I took my last car for a 're-gas' whilst on holiday last summer. The garage gassed it, checked the pressure, found a leak and then removed(?) the gas. Did a leak trace and found a problem with the 'low pressure hose' I think it was. They quoted £337 for supply and fit.

I thanked them and said the car only cost me £350 so I'd forget it! lol. So they then charged £75 for labour and wasted gas!! Gits!

They do need re-gassing from time-to-time though, so hopefully yours will be a simple top-up and won't result in any expensive repairs. :)

Hi
Went to Kwik fit in doncaster to have my air Con Checked/regassed on the recomendation the man was a absolute wally said just finished the course got the book out and continued to read i thought good god wat have i done but in all fairness i think he as made a good job air con is ice cold now, he did get mixed up with the eco button and couldnt work out why it was on with light out but we got there so in essence apart from the hesitant start with it he did a good job
