Where is Temp Gauge Transmitter located on 98 3Litre Please?.
Is there just one Transmitter fitted or a seperate one for the Engine Management?

If you mean the external air temperature, the sensor is located just under the front bumper.

If you mean the coolant temperature, then as you suggested there are two - they are both in the valley between the V i.e. deep down between the two cylinder heads, one for the gauge and one for the ECU. In order to get to them you will need to remove the Intake Plenum, Intake Manifold, and Intake Flange.

It's not that hard a job really.... just a bit time consuming removing all the bits first. If you follow the guide to replacing the cam cover gaskets (in the maintenance guides forum) then that shows how to remove the plenum and inlet bridge, after which the coolant bridge and sensor will be visible and accessible.

Remember that main dealers are about £75 + VAT per hour labour

It sounds like the wire to send the information to the temp gauge on the dash has come off.

Simply remove plenum and you will see the connector on the coolant bridge. Simple spade connector that comes off easily when workiing down there.

Many Thanks folks for all your prompt replies. At least now i know where to start looking.
I have just replaced Crank Sensor and connector plug is in the same area ,so as you say i could well have disturbed a connection.

If its the gauge thats stopped working then they do tend to fall off when working behing the engine but its usually because the connector has already been weakened by corrosion. They are ordinary 1/4" Lucar connectors, you can crimp on a new one if necessary but might have to cut the wire back a bit to find clean, un-corroded bit.

You are all bang on the money as usual folks!!!. On removal of inlet Manifold found that Sensors cables had been tiewrapped to old crank sensor cable and pulled of connections when cable was removed!
