Your right.....a 406 is not a 306 or 206 or 307 or 207 or any of the other small pugs.....

The hate them with a passion following a spate of 7 different ones where every single one had a problem from radios not working to the exhaust falling off on the A46......and they all had sub 5K miles on them!

As my father always said about french car (and he used to work for Renault), if you buy french, get the base model.....coz they dont do electrics!

Its not a 407 either......im getting reports of drivers using 407's getting g/b probs and flywheels.

Worst case i heard of is a driver of a 407 is on his 5th flywheel and 3rd gearbox!

The only 407 that nearly got a good report....was a 3L auto.....tho he sold it coz it drank diesel

405/406 (both of which I've owned) historically have notchy gearchanges, and poor synchro on 2nd and third...

I have heard too many complaints about peugeot..

Astra or a clit (although the parts are expensive) with 1.4 or 1.6 liter will be better I think..

go for a corsa good reliable,cheap on insurance,in one of the lowest groups ins group 2,and cheaper by far for parts,french cars should be sent straight to the scrap yard,my brother works in a m.o.t. garage ,he say the worst cars for failling test ,usually falling on front suspension components,c.v. boots,drive shafts and go through discs like no tomorrow
