Cheesed off !!
« on: 20 September 2007, 21:56:03 »

I is ***** off ....   >:(

In order to start doing my own work I checked the toolbox, which hasn't seen serious workloads for over 15 years, since the days of the MGB .. loads of imperial stuff, but not much metric and no torx at all, plus the torque wrench is high range (20Nm upwards) only and the maintenance guides often refer to much lower settings ....

So I go on-line and order, from various places, the stuff I need and the parts ... everything arrives fine EXCEPT the low range torque wrench, which arrives in bits, literally, so it gets sent back for replacement.

Tonight, 8 days after it was returned, I get an e-mail saying they can't replace it for 3 weeks, as there has ben a "run" on these since they were praised in some Mountain Bikers magazine .. I've told them to stuff it and refund my payment.

Now searching for another source, I've e-mailed a couple and await tomorrows responses, but does anyone have any suggestions on a suitable low range torque wrench ?? The one I'm trying to obtain ia a Sealey STW1012 2-24 Nm 3/8 drive, seems to be in the region of £30 + £5 postage

I was just a little cheesed off after putting the car on axle stands, removing the sump plug and draining the oil only to find that I didn't have the right size socket to remove the Oil filter (It's the later type)...... Id got one one size to big and one one size to small!!!!

You don't need a socket, just put the end of the 3/8 ratchet directly into the end of the oil filter ;)

Don't follow.... I'm being thick here but how does a 3/8 ratchet (the square?) fit on the lid bit of the later style can which has a hex?

The lowest range there is 8-60, some of the maintenance guides quote 8 Nm.. so I'd rather have one that starts below that.. if that makes sense..   :-/

On mine, directly in the middle of the hex, is a square cut-out, a 3/8 ratchet fits perfectly in there!

Good logic.. but I can confirm through using one MANY times on the V6... the halfrauds one handles 8nm VERY well :)

OIC, I know mine doesn't have that..... Might see if I can get the lid with that 3/8 cut out from the dealers for next time, would be a lot easier  :y Thanks
