Uneven tyre wear
« on: 27 June 2007, 16:20:45 »

I've just noticed that my new front tyres (well, they were new in February) are showing distinctly uneven wear on the inner edges.  Do I need to organise that trip to Tony in Watford as a matter of urgency?

And as an aside, could I turn the tyres round to use some of the fresh rubber on the outside edges??   :-/
Or do they have a right/wrong direction?  I can see I'll be needing a new pair soon otherwise...  :(

Cheers,
Baz.

I really hope I'm not being a Obvious-Idiot here but have you checked out the tyre pressures lately? I had a pull on mine when I got it already equipped with a set of new 'uns but a check check on the boards and a toddle down the BP seems to have sorted the ever-so slight pull I detected.

Of course I dunno if it was going to uneven the wears eventually but I didn't want to wait and it has made the small but appreciable difference.

Of course I should just let someone who knows their stuff on instead. :-X  All the Best though  ;D

PS ANyone know a decent Omega fix bloke in the Far West Country???

Make an appointment to see Tony in Hemel - then you will know its set as it should be.

Some tyres are directional

just sold my wifes old Safrane last night.....it had two resonably recent tyres on the front and a known steering rack....tyres had uneven wear on front.

Now not saying its your steering rack but as a genereal pointer any uneven wear is due to a deficiency in steering / geometry areas....or wrong tyre pressure.

Trip to Tony  :y

Omegas seem prone to inner shoulder wear, and its due to camber. Tony @ WIM in Hemel will sort you out. Mention OOF to keep the prices down :y

Thanks for confirmation - I'd been meaning to book a trip anyway - this just confirms it ought to be sometime soon...

As we know the Omega has a very fluid sprung suspension dynamic issue. Often this violates the camber positions offering the distress visible in this thread. It is possible to capture the correct camber positions for the Omega but not in one visit?

Initially the chassis is recovered to a wim position. Then 2000 miles later the positions are reviewed and re-calibrated free to finalise the Geometry....

This free fine-tune (for the club) guarantees the positions suit you, the car and your driving environment.

TBH, best bet is to call him, or contact via his site. Obviously relocating has taken a lot of his time, and cannot pop in here quite so often at the moment...
