power off delay
« on: 29 June 2007, 15:38:52 »

righto people, you know when you turn off your ignition and remove the key, there's normally a delay period, giving you 30 seconds or so to put your windows back up if you didnt do it with the key in

however mine has decided not to delay which means when i took my key out, the windows wouldnt go up when i pressed the button, or if i press the button then take the key out the window stops wherever it's at when the key is removed, so i have to put the key back in to put them up. any idea why the delay has decided not to engage?

the one-touch still works while i'm driving though..

Have you checked the fuses?

The power off delay is only a second or two at most.

I can open and close my windows (and sunroof) for as long as I like, until I open the drivers door. This is a security measure, so that windows cannot be opened or closed (with the key out of the ignition) once the driver has left the car.

My old GLS Cavalier worked the same way, but the windows on my wife's Astra stop working as soon as the ignition is turned off.

Have you checked the fuses?

any idea which it would be?

if it were a blown fuse, would they still work with the key in? its only when i take the key out that they stop straight away

i'm pretty sure its been more like 30 seconds in the past, sometimes i've took the key out and put my steering lock on, then still been able to close the windows off the door buttons

As I said, my windows will keep working until the drivers door is opened - even if that is half an hour or more.

It could be related to the drivers door switch, or even the inside light bulb having failed, as it will need the voltage from the bulb to 'pull up' the control circuit.

The windows should work until the drivers door is opened and closed after key pulled...

which fuse do i need to check? and when you say the inside light, do you mean the main interior light or the driver's door bulb?

You are right. The electric windows work until the drivers door is opened and closed again. However, the point I was making is that there is no time delay as such, as the electric windows continue to operate until the drivers door is opened and closed - even if that is half an hour or so after shutting down the engine and taking the keys out.

The bulb I was referring to is the main interior light in the central console. If this light doesnt work properly (owing to a fault in the drivers door light switch, the bulb or the fuses protecting the circuit)  it is very likely that the window control circuilt will also be affected, as it probably needs the voltage from the light switch to tell it that the driver has left the vehicle.

As far as I know, the drivers door light switch is the same as the other three switches, but is on a different circuit for the purposes of the window control.

Sorry to ramble on but I hope the above makes some sense!
