Autobox upgrade
« on: 06 July 2007, 21:03:24 »

:question Is the upgrade available for my 2000 X 2.0 CDX and if so what benefits would I gain. Would it smooth out the "lockdown" effect at about 50 mph and what sort of price would I be expecting to pay as I assume this is a Tech 2 job from the main stealers. :-[

Yes it can be done, and yes it will make the changes smoother.  Dealers charge anywhere from £75 upwards.  My prices are shown in the link in my signature...

The software update made a HUGE change on my 2001, the box shifts much smoother and the metallic 'clunk' when shifting disappeared completely. However it did not resolve all of the autobox niggles - mine seem to sometimes get 'stuck' in lower gear, and only shifts up at around 3k+ which is higher than normal and makes the car noisy. It does not always happen, and it happens when the car is warm so it is not the cat-warmer thing, but I seem to remember other members hear complaining about same (AA?). Didn't have it on my old 97R though. Said that the software upgrade is a must have, even members of my family who are not too car savvy on normal days commented that the car was driving much smoother! As for dealers, setting aside the high cost, you will need to find someone who actually knows what you are talking about and is willing to do this - some dealers will just fob you off.

Thanks in advance,
