Pressures
« on: 08 July 2007, 20:58:39 »

Could someone advise please.

Whilst towing my caravan I use the following tyre pressures

Origional Tyre size = 225 x 55 x 16 95V = Pressures Front 36, Rear 42. This was going by the manual.

I have since fitted new wheels

Tyre size = 235 x 40 x 18 91W = What would the best tyre pressues be whilst towing.

Also, If I had the 4 wheel alignment done with my new wheels as above, would the alignment be the same or would I need to have it done again if I put my Miggy wheels back on.

Any help on the above would be apprieciated.

When doing tyre pressures you should wear open toe sandals..

Kick tyre until big toe hurts, this indicates enough pressure in tyre.

Hope this helps... ;D ;D ;D

Start off with the pressures used on the 17 inch wheels and watch the tyre wear, if wearing in the middle then up them a bit...

Its going to be trial and error to some extent as the calcs were not done during the design of the car.

Mark, don't you mean lower the pressure if wearing in the centre of tyre

Do you mean use the fully laden values of the 16" on the new 18" even though the tyre size is different.

I'd go for the 17" values (32 all round normal, 38F 45R fully laden), and see what wear pattern develops...
