For the autobox gaskets and filter, try JPAT (£38 delivered). Dexron III from Halfords (£20 for 5l, need about 6 or 7l).

Yes, you'll have clearance on axle stands.

I don't expect to be able to get much more than 5L in mine as drained out around 5L - unless of course the level was low to start with.

If thats all it took, that's enough :)

I reckon its normally just over 5l, and some lost depending on fill and check method...

.....Mr Haynes implies that if the brake pad warning light has not come on, the sensor does not need replacing - any comments from the experts please ??....

Its rare that the pad wear indicator can be reused as it normally breaks on removal from the old pads.  I'd budget for replacements and, if not needed, you have spares.  You will need them sometime....

.....Lastly (for the moment !!) ...  what is recommended for degreasing the new discs ??.....

I would get a couple of cans of brake cleaner and use that.  You will also use some when cleaning out the crud in the caliper housing.  Don't breath in the dust when blowing the old stuff out.  Its not good for you.   :y

..that's a good point - not sure how efficient that is going to be yet :-/

what's your method TB?  my concern is that the hot exhaust is right next to the fill point..

I used to use a bit of hose, funnel one end, PCL air adapter other, PCL adqapter scrwed in fill hole.

However, I 'borrowed' ::) a garden sprayer from Ronnie McB which is how I fill now.

I use the DTM method - jack up passenger side, put in enough until it just starts to come out hole (with it jacked up), start engine, put more in until it has had 5l in total, then lower down. If any comes out, let it, then plug.  If not, jack back up and put more in and repeat as necessary.  Once the level is right, take it for 20min spin, then recheck level.

PCL?

I wondered what Ronnie meant by 'his refil kit'... ;)

you mean jack the drivers side up, don't you?    Can you route the hose up through the engine bay without it getting melted onto the exhaust? (along with the back of your hand :'()

PCL is a standard used on airtools - just happens that the thread is the same as gearbox, which allows hose to be connected.

Ronnie's kit works better though

Good idea.

When I filled my gearbox I didn't so much 'lose' any fluid .... it just didn't go where I wanted it to! ;D It's amazing how far a bit of ATF can be spread around your drive!  :-[

many thanks ....  jpat     http://www.jpat.co.uk   are doing :

N209 27 01 VAUXHALL FILTER 44mm 4L30E/AR25 £17.95
N209 25 01 FRONT PAN GASKET £3.76
N209 25 02 REAR PAN GASKET £5.10

plus VAT & postage .. seems a good deal so I've ordered a set. Mr Haynes mentions renewing the washer on the fill plug, is this a standard item or special ?

TC are doing disc/pad set at £69.60. Mr Haynes implies that if the brake pad warning light has not come on, the sensor does not need replacing - any comments from the experts please ??

Lastly (for the moment !!) ...  what is recommended for degreasing the new discs ??

Sorry to be a pain... I think I'm nearly out of questions now.. but don't bank on it !

Regards and thanks ...     Entwood

The filler plug gasket should be standard, though I bought one from Vx (it's the best way to ensure it is the correct one, and the cost is very low anyway)

The pad wear sensors 'click' into the pads, and can't really be removed without breaking them... and even if you are extremely crafty with the small screw driver, for the cost of a tenner it is best to just have a new one ready anyway.

New discs can be degreased with brake cleaner, though I personally use petrol (not very safe, so don't do this at home...).
