Dashboard Lamps-Wecome to the Cheap Seats!
« on: 13 September 2007, 19:39:16 »

There are several references to replacing the bulbs on models fitted with Climate Control, but some of us (in the cheap seats) only have bog-standard heaters (96 GLS)
My question is what is the correct Bulb Part No. for the bulbs that sit just to one side of the temperature control knobs? One of mine has blown
There appear to be 2 bulbs that illuminate the Temperature controls (left & right), Fan Speed, & where the air is directed
Is this correct or are there more of the little buggers lurking back behind the front panel?
If so I'll replace all of them while I'm there

Well the part number for the climate ones is 9120630 (they are 1.2W with a black base as a check)

I'm not sure if yours are the same or how many. Sorry.

You know you have to pull the knobs off to access the screws that hold the panel on..?

yep, if I remeber correctly my locak wilkinson has them!

Quite easy to get at really, just go carefully as the plastic trim can be a bit fragile.  Give us a shout if you need a few hints

I did this just the other day. There is no surround on the bulb, all glass. It is a very small bulb. I've just looked at my old one but no writing on it.
I took out the old one and took to halfords to compare. £1.29 IIRC  :y

Was it necessatry to remove the radio or can it be done leaving it in place & just removing the 4 screws behind the knobs?

Hmm I just removed it 'cos I had the tools handy but now you mention it, no I don't think you need to

I presume you do not have climate control, just standard the standard 4 dials for heat, fan and direction.

All from memory here:  4 screws, 1 behind each knob

take out the ashtray insert, then in the cutout at the back, take outt he screw, remove the ashtray mount by pulling forward. this reveals 2 more screws on the left and the right, take these out and you should be able to ease the panel forward to change the lights.  Do all three while you are there.

Yes just simple controls no Climate (we're both in cheap seats!)
Where's the 3rd bulb?

I have done it!
15 minute job

Here's how:

1) Open the Ashtray
2) Release the catch on the right-hand side of the inner ashtray part & remove it by pulling upwards
3) Remove the screw at the back of the ashtray & remove the outer ashtray part
4) Gently ease out the various switches & blanks starting with the Hazard switch
5) Remove the 2 screws at the base of the control panel bezel that are behind where the ashtray was
6) Pull off the 4 control knobs (2 temperature, Fan & Air direction)
7) Remove the 4 screws (1 behind each knob)
8) Gently pull the bezel forward about 5 cm (there is no need to remove either the radio or the little 'cubby-hole' to the left of the radio). This exposes the 3 bulbs at the top of the white plastic panel behind
9) Pull out all 3 bulbs & replace them regardless of whether blown or not. (If you have fat fingers carefully use small pliers to do this & do not crush the glass)
10) Switch on the lights to verify that the new bulbs work
11) Put it all back together in reverse order

The VX part for the bulb is 93190474 & cost me £0.71 each ex VAT

Note the screws are Philips type not Posidrive so use the correct type of screwdriver
