2.5 TD CDX - Performance mods?
« on: 21 October 2007, 21:35:43 »

Hi,

Having made the crazy decision to keep my Omega TD rather than buy something else I am looking for ways to improve it. The car is spotless for it's age and most tings work (now) but i've always found the power and economy very disapointing. I’ve seen some mention of chipping in this forum and wonder of this is what I need! I do about 500 – 600 miles a week (Edinburgh to Glasgow so motorway). Any advice or opinions would be appreciated. I sometimes wish i’d kept my 2.5 V6!! Are there any other performance MOD's might keep me happy?

Cheers

If its an auto, you're knackered - any mods will wreck the box.

If manual (or already have AR35), contact user Omegatoy - I have one of his chips, and it increases performance and economy...

Hi TB. It is an auto but I dont know if it's an AR35 box or not (I doubt it). Is there an easy way to tell?

On the passenger side of box is a metal plate riveted on (its green in colour), and states AR25 or AR35.  All tractors came with AR25, so would only have a AR35 if it has been replaced at some point.

Thanks mate, i'll give it a look but I reccon it will be the original. When you say the mod will kill the existing box is this an always thing or only if I drive it hard? Economy is more important to me than performance and i’ve grown out of the boy racer mentality (well I think so). Anyway, if you know the M8 you’ll know it’s no race track.

It WILL wreck it. The standard setup will wreck the box around 120 - 150k anyway.  The standard setup is outputting 250Nm of torque, and AR25 is rated to 250Nm, so its already right on the limit....

If its been driven lightly, the box could last that long.  Though most likely already been changed, so check the box ;)
