2.5 v6 fault code confusion
« on: 31 October 2007, 00:36:45 »

eml light has started coming on for a few seconds at a timewhile driving, so i did the paperclip test and got the following (confusing) results.                                                                                                  1.flash/gap/two quick flashes, three times(code 12,starting procedure)                                                  2flash/gap/nine quick flashes, three times(code 19,crank sensor)might explain why it suddenly cuts out sometimes.                                                                                                                                      3.eight quick flashes, three times (code 8 ?)                                                                                        4.nine quick flashes, three times (code 9 ?)                                                                                         as the lowest code number is 12 i presume i am missing something ! has anyone got any ideas please?

Not sue if this answers your query or not, just having a quick read and dash of the forum....

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152601768

Code 12 means start of sequence, code 19 because engine not running.

The rest?  Not sure...  No doubt someone will advise/correct me.....

Normally engine not running gives 31

19 Is Crank Sensor knackered, replace ASAP

When the Crank sensor stops completely, you wont be able to start your car!  Tow home time!
So replace it as soon as you can, there is a maintainance guide explaining how to  :y

thanks jimbob, guess i will have to add a new crank sensor to the long list of parts i have had to put on the omega,i wish ihad my old 24v senator back. it was twice the car, never broke down and even used less petrol than the2.5 omega.anyway i am still pretty confused by thelast two codes that were flashed-9 flashes 3 times followed by 8 flashes three times. doesnt make sense to me, i dont know if it does to anyone else?

The code 12 is normal, can be ignored.

Code 19 means the ECU is getting incorrect signals from the crank sensor. This means it is failing, and needs replacing ASAP. It WILL let you down, at the most inconvenient time!

If you get a code 31, Engine RPM signal (crankshaft sensor) No signal, then this is normal with the engine off.

But 19 is not normal under any conditions. Change the crank sensor.

Sort the crank, as this normally throws other codes (notably 73/74)...
