V6 ICV
« on: 05 November 2007, 15:34:13 »

think I need to clean my ICV...

I've got a small but perceptable variation in idle - the tacho needle hardly moves but the engine tone is a giveaway.

I've never taken the ICV off the plenum before,  so firstly , how does it come off (is a there a bolt somewhere?) and are there any tips for cleaning it?

Cheers,

Ian

From memory it just pushes on to the plenum, there should be a hose clip securing its intake pipe and an electrical connector. Wash out with carb cleaner, allow to dry then apply light machine oil.

As ever check engine breather system for blockages.

It simply pulls (easily) out of plenum, then pull it from its rubber mounting.  Once you have undone the jubilee clip holding the pipe to it, and removed electrical connector of course

Thanks chaps.  I had assumed (for some reason - can't think why.. ;) - that there would be something devious and tricky to it)

Nah, you'll have no problem.  Its (almost) as easy as removal.

On mine there's a small torx bolt hidden underneath that needs to be undone before you can remove the ICV.

..... even if simply sliding it out of the rubber holder??  I am unaware of anything on the V6 one that would take a screw or a torx....   :-/

The torx bolt secures the rubber mount to the plenum, with care the idle valve can still be removed from this without removing the bolt.

Agreed there is a mounting screw for the rubber holder, however the ICV, as said above, can be removed/replaced by simply slipping it out/in the holder.  The screw does not actually restrain it.
