knocking suspension
« on: 25 November 2007, 21:38:30 »

hi folks, i have a rather worrying knocking noise from the drivers side suspension, you can feel it through the floor. sounds like somethings loose.

the car's had new wishbones recently fitted by timbuk of here so i don't think it,s them. i had the tracking done last week at kwik fit (which was 21mm out) and they checked the wishbones aswell, all ok.

the noise has got worse today after a drive to stoke and back and after a quick search on here it looks like it might be one of the droplinks.  i've had a quick look at them and they aren't snapped but they are pretty rusty.

there's no pulling to left or right infact it drives a lot better since the tracking was done.

i had a similar problem on my astra and it was a snapped link, do the joints just go in them or do they tend to snap?

any help is appreciated

cheers
Dave.

Drop links can wear without snapping, so a good place to start and whilst your under there make sure that everthing is done up tight.

i'm guessing that the links are about £15 each from the stealers?

can they fail in a short space of time?

thanks for the quick reply btw :y

they do look like they've been on there since new tbh, i'll get 2 as when my astra one went it was the opposite side to which the knocking was coming from :-?

or does one fit both sides, universal sort of thing?

Droplinks, mate.  30 mins max per side to replace, no hard thing.....  Get them from e-bay, just as cheap, just as good as anywhere else.....  Same on each side, either suits either...
