Very Strange ECU related problem...
« on: 22 November 2007, 11:58:41 »

Hi guys. a few weeks ago i went to start her up and the she just wouldnt fire. opened up the bonnet and heard a solenoid/relay click. after a while i gave it a technical tap... sure enough started ok, and was fine for a few days. its now doing it more regularly and even cut out when driving the other day.

So a friend and I armed with a screwdriver and test light attacked the fuses and relays, no fault found. thinking it was a dodgy relay i began to tap them all. nothing. It wasnt until i caught the ecu with my arm that it cut out! appears that if i move the ecu up or down (started or not) it causes what i will assume to be a lack of spark/fuel... Now the ecu has been chipped, do you guys think it could be the chip or the whole ecu?

any thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks

Matt

PS I have checked as much of the wiring as poss, and cant see any obvious faults..

Check the chip is fully seated - being socketed, it may have started to creep out.

Also, and this may sound really daft, can you measure the battery voltage before and during cranking?

Hi there, thanks for your reply, i have put the old chip back in which does seem to fit much more snug and all my problems have gone, the abs/ecu light doesnt come on, starts first time, going to take the chip back and complain! Thanks for your reply!
