Car on kerb
« on: 11 December 2007, 09:35:28 »

This is a bit of an odd one but just whated to see if any one has had anything like this happen to them. On Sunday morring i moved my car placeing one side up on the kerb (pasager side.) At about 8PM had to go out to get some petrol but when i started the car it seem to not run as well as it always had. One i had move it off the kerb and a few feet on the flat road all was fine. I was thinking that it may have been becuse the oil was not getting picked up as it would if the car was on flat ground ie all the oil in the sump was on one side as it was up on the kerb if that makes any sence.

Has anyone else had this or just me.

Has been just fine since them.

Really low on fuel and putting one side higher than the other left the fuel pickup sucking air??   :-/

Good point did not think about that . Is the pick on the drivers side?

Ditto for the oil if the level is very low (worth checking). However, it'll pick up oil at any angle at which it'll stay on its wheels if up to the maximum mark.

I think its pretty much central in the tank but the tank is towards the drivers side.  Needs some space for the exhaust to go.  Someone else may confirm later.

As long as its fine now with a fuller tank of fuel, thats a fair source of the cause, I would think....

Thanks Gents checked the oil last week and top up with some. Doing about 500 miles a week so not bad on that. Just have to keep an eye on the petrol one of those days where it looking as if there was more in the tank than there was. With the price rise if a put £10 in at 1.09 i get about 70 miles on a good run mway run. Would that be good? not sure how to work out the MPG.

£10/1.09 = 9.2 litres / 4.54 = 2.02 gallons.
70 miles / 2.02 gallons = 34.7 MPG

So, that's not too bad.

The fuel tank on a Monza is a long slim affair and I've had this many a time where upon parking on a slope it won't start when you come back to it! It's only when the left hand side is down. Just one of those silly idiosyncrosies of  a car!!!

I get that with mine!! It says 65 miles left in the tank on flat ground....if I park it with the drivers side on the kerb, then it wont start (luckily I have a get-out-of-jail-free card...and just start it on LPG instead  ;D )
