Knock Sensor 1 - ecu fault code 16
« on: 16 December 2007, 11:52:53 »

Does anyone know what will cause this fault code to be raised?

The EML is constantly on (pusating very fast). The fault occurred about 40 miles after a cambelt change that I did. The engine sounds fine and no other warnings are appearing.

The knock sensor wire looks fine and no other wires are damaged. Marks DTM in another post says that when this fault is raise the car goes into limp mode, but I did not notice this (mind you I did not try and go above 50mph when the fault occurred). It has only been driven about 1/2 mile since this started.

Thanks
Chris

Have you trapped the knock sensor wire when re-fitting the aux belt tensioner....is it all connected up ok?

It does not look trapped. I took a picture of it but I can't see how to put it up here. The wire I am looging at is the one that clips just above the cable tray. One connector comes out of the cable tray and the other goes around the back of the timing belt cover. It is free all the way till it disapears below somewhere below the plenum...

 >:( What a clot! Sometimes I think I'm too dumb to be doing work on my car! I have been misreading the fault code and it is not 16 it is 133. The lamp flashes 1-3-3. I had assumed the codes were only two digits but red the list again.

133 is Exhaust Gas Re-circulation (EGR) valve 2 High voltage. Does anyone know what that means or what to do about it? Time to take to Vx being as I'm so stupid?

Clean the EGR out with paint stripper, suspect its gone a bit sticky

Yup.

1) Check the EGR vale is properly connected (you will ahev un-plugged it when removing the plenum)

2) Undo the 2 bolts securing it to its mount and clena it out with paint stripper.
