Spare Tyre
« on: 07 January 2008, 21:19:24 »

Having just had a puncture on the nearside front tyre, I've been forced to use the spare tyre.

However, whilst I'm not surprised it's a steel spare, it would appear that finding a replacement for it may be difficult.

It's a 205/65 R15 94W Michelin Pilot HX and it looks good enough to possibly be the original spare tyre.  When I've tried to find a replacement tyre in that specification, I don't seem to be able to find such a tyre in manufacture any more.

Is this true, and did Vauxhall generally only ever provide a steel spare wheel with the Omega?  Perhaps I could get another alloy wheen, second-hand as I doubt they're still available to buy new.

Thanks,

Mr Hagon

The spare tyre for all models is a full-size one, i.e. not space-saver, but the size is fixed at 205/65 R15.

So with my previous Omega, that had 4 steel wheels with 205/65 R15 as standard, the spare was identical to the road wheels in every respect which was very useful...

On my current omega the road wheels are alloy with 225/55x16 rubber, so the spare is the odd one out being steel with 205/65 R15 tyre....

But I did recently see 205/65 R15 tyres in tyre shops, don't think they are obsolete....

I've managed to wedge the alloy into the space for the spare, which is where it will sit.  The strap just about reaches over it...

I've also looked a bit harder online and found the spare tyre for sale, so apologies for not looking harder in the first place!
