Gearbox Faults???
« on: 15 January 2008, 18:31:18 »

May sound a little thick here, bt does the car have a seperate manangement system for the gearbox (Auto)

Ive had various problems that I have sorted however a friend pointed out after borrowing it that it appears to skip what I think is 3rd. It goes through first upto 4500/5000 revs, second 4500,5000 and then into third but it then jumps up/down gears and selects top gear slowing the acceleration, then picks up again once it reaches enough speed for that gear.

Do you think that it could just be down to needing an oil change or more serious?????? any suggestions welcome  :-/

Yes it does.........it has an ECU for the gearbox......

Doesnt sound normal to me.......mine hunts around the gears a bit in 3rd/4th.......but ive put that down to running on lpg.....as it doesnt seem to do it running on petrol....ie it may change to 4th, then realise it doesnt have the power to continue to accelerate...so changes back to 3rd again

Before changing oil/filter id make sure the g/b ECU is at the latest version......latest version can help quite a bit  :y

I think MarkDTM is closest to you in Nottingham that has a TECH2 to check and upgrade you if ness  :y

EDIT**** Just noticed you have a 98 Omega......that maybe too old to upgrade the G/B ecu.......not sure  :-/ Im sure an expert will be able to advise  :y

First check for the latest version of auto software, as said,  then the fluid needs to be changed ever 60k/70k or 4 years max, relacement fluid should be Dexron 3. There are some very experienced Omega owners on this site (out of my league) who offer there knowledge at no charge !!!!!!!!!
How brilliant is that  :y
