another auto gearbox problem
« on: 15 January 2008, 21:10:31 »

Twice in the last week my gearbox has gone into default mode (spanner on dash light up) drops into third. I happens just as the box changes up into 4th, the first time it went with a slight clunk but the next time it appeared to change up as usual but just after the box went intro default mode.

Fault clears after stopping car and turning off engine

Can the box be read with a Tech2 and is there anyone local to me in Kent with one.

I wasn't expecting problems with a 2003 facelift with only 42k on the clock.

It appears to work ok the rest of the time.

Hi

Best thing to have fault codes read, yes tech2 will read your ecu's may be your box maybe something else. Any lights flashing on gear shift?
I have similar problem dealing with at present fault codes say fuel trim.
When fault occurs, lose power if I stop switch off and restart fault disappears, worth checking rather than guessing, someone else can probably help you with that. Good luck.

No lights out of sync on the gearshift, I had that on a previous Omega. I cycled through the gearshift several times after it happend to check it out.
