external temp sensor prob......
« on: 09 February 2008, 13:11:50 »

OK, silly this one but I need it sorting never the less. OK... external temp sensor started to play up a few weeks back throwing off random temps and then started to show the "F" as if it was failing. I got rid of sensor and got another and it is still showing as "F". I recently had the gearbox changed over so maybe that has done something to it's wiring??

Any idea's for me to check over ?

cheers

Sensor is under the front bumper, nearside. It may throw your climate control into confusion if the value is incorrect.

Thats not the prob Mike (thanks for the reply though), the sensor has been changed mate. It was giving erratic readings just after I got the gearbox changed and then the reading said "F", hence the reason I changed it.

Where does the wires chase back to so I can check the connections further up ?

I've had this problem - temp reported anywhere between -20 and -28.

Fitted new sensor - after that just an 'F', permanently.

Found a break in the sensor wire between the sensor and the loom. The plastic covering was still intact but the wire inside was open circuit - never noticed a problem when I changed the sensor.

I just bared both ends, soldered together and taped it up - hey presto worked ever since.

You can easily reach the wires through the little grille thing at the side of the passenger-side foglamp. Unclip the sensor from the bumper, then pull through gently from the grille.

Peter.
