Facelift front ashtray assembly
« on: 26 February 2008, 08:00:36 »

How do I remove it?

It won't clip back into place, it's like there's some resistance.

Do you think a werthers might have got trapped down the back of it?

To remove, pop the ash insert out and if you look carefuly you should be able to see a screw....remove this and the whole lump pulls out.

Had same problem.... I thought some latch bit may be broken etc, so I tried removing the ashtray and examine.

I did manage to remove the would-effect trim, but could not see anything obvious (e.g. Mark's screw). I then  tried removing to radio to have better access, but the radio removal tool I bought from Halfords did not work...  >:(

At which point I gave up on it, and as soon as I managed to push it back shut I did not open it again.... so if you do find out how to remove the ashtray that I would appreciate a How To Maintenance Guide.  :y

I was trying to follow this:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152745540

Although Jay W removed the radio before removing the ashtray, and it is not clear from his post how you would go about removing the latter with the former still in situ.

Fixed....the only difference is there are 3 screws.

One in the centre, and 1 either side.

Remove the 3 screws and the ash tray assembly just pulls out.

There is no need to remove the radio.

Shook it, and a little piece of plastic fell out.

Works perfectly now :y

Interesting... in my case the two screws on the sides held the frame trim, but their removal was not needed because only the one screw in the middle actually held the ashtray.

Yours being a 2002, I guess that Vx in their infinite wisdom picked-up on this major 2001 design flaw and improved it on the 2002 model....  ;D
