oil leak/head gasket

i have a realy bad oil leak had a machanic look at it and he said it was leaking from under the thermostat housing.he said head gasket had gone.does this sound right car does not over heat and no oil water mix he said it would be 600 ish to fix.does this sound right or is he talking rubbish.you can see the oil dripping out from the place he said but sounds like a big job for an oil leak.will it damage car if i run it as is but keep topping up oil itl oses about a litre every 2 to 3 days thanks

Others here will tell you whether they think it needs a new HG.

But if it does, Vauxhall main dealer rate is just under £600 (including a courtesy car), so you might want to consider that.

You might also consider getting the cambelt changed while it's all apart, as it should be cheaper to get it done at the same time if it's due fairly soon anyway.
