Sunroof corrosion - update.
« on: 16 March 2008, 19:39:10 »

Some time ago I posted about the corrosion on my sunroof frame, and some rust bubbles on my doors which is not good for a car that is less than 4 years old.

I took the car to the nearest Vauxhall body shop (nearly 30 miles away) in January where they took photographs and raised a report then I heard nothing until last Friday when I received a telephone call saying that the warranty claim had been accepted and I can bring the car in.

I delivered it this Saturday and every spot of corrosion was again noted and marked up, including the usual area under the rear wiper blade and a small spot on the bonnet slam panel above the radiator.  The chap said that it could take up to 2 weeks to do all the repairs which is a bit inconvenient, fortunately I ride a bike to work just hope it doesn't rain.

What a result, my faith in Vauxhall has been completely restored.

My wife is already making noises about me borrowing her Vectra estate which is a bit of a cheek seeing as I bought it for her in the first place and maintain it!

I'd mention the word courtesy car, that'll hurry em up with your repairs.

Interesting though, the sunroof surround on ours is starting to go crackly, though our faith in vx HQ is somewhat less positive! Might be worth raising though.

Very interesting, my 2003 2.6 had its sunroof replaced two or three years ago because the frame had filiform corrosion under the black finish.

It's now happening again, I took it to the same Vauxhall agent for assessment, not interested, only cover glass and its mounts for one or two years.

Our 98, 2.5 shows no sign of sunroof frame corrosion! Plenty on the doors though.

I did ask about a courtesy car and was told that they are only supplied to cars up to 1 year old, up to 3 years old it is discretionary and after 3 years no chance.

TBH I am just glad that they have agreed to the work and I hope that it is done to a good standard.

Is the black metal surround something that we could replace ourselfs or is it a major strip down (sunroof has to come out)? mine is starting to get a few bubbles on it. The rest of the car is fine

Who's gonna volunteer to have a go then!?! Jukebox, I wonder if it's possible for you to get a breakdown of parts and work carried out as part of your reciept/warranty???

Thanks for your update, hope they do a decent job. :y
