Flickering ECU Light
« on: 25 March 2008, 20:12:20 »

My ECU is flickering really quickly

read the code and its 73 - MAF sensor voltage low

I reset the battery, and the light went out, but 2 miles down the road it came back on.

Double checked the connection and wiring, even taped it in place.  Reset battery and this worked for 8 miles cruising, but came back on  :(

So not sure if its the MAF sensor or the wiring

Measure the battery voltage at idle and 3000rpm as a starter.

Get 12.7v across battery - engine not running and 13.7 when engine running.

I've tried another afm but light is still flickering.

It started after doing the thermostat, not sure what I could have upset to cause this!

Ah, probably an air intake leak then - check the plenum o rings and the other seals you had to remove.

I'd hazard a guess at yes if TB says to check it.

Yes, as its storing a MAF fault (hence the 73). Reason its storing MAF fault is because unmetered air is getting in engine (via airleak), and ECU knows how much air is in the engine (via lamda feedback, and amount of fuel its putting in), and this doesn't match what MAF is saying.

I think I've located the problem to the breather box thing on top of the engine.  Underneath theres a round bit that is meant to slot into a corresponding hole in the plenum...but its not a tight fit and air is being sucked in here.

Should there be a rubber seal that goes round the protruding bit of the breather box?

Yup but I doubt you can get a replacement from Vx.  Try B&Q or a plumbing outlet
