bought hbv today in hope that this is where im still losing water. ive looked everywhere and cant see anything but drops of water going on floor under back of engine. have been following threads carefully on here for advice and tips.
 any ideas what it could be if its not hbv knackered???? water is clean, oil is clean no gunge around oil cap, breathers all been cleaned last week

I'm no expert .. but if memory serves me, HBV leaks can occur at odd times depending on heater demand...

Basically the HBV diverts water through the heater matrix to provide heat in the cabin, the leak can vary with the heater demand.. so it can be difficult to actually "see" the leak

i do seem to lose more water with the heater running, i noticed that the other day when i checked.

Personally I would say, do the HBV, see if it solves the issue...then see where we are then?? Check the pipes going into the HBV too for cracks as this is common I believe...

i did also notice that the other night after doing 30 miles when i stopped i could see steam coming out both sides of bonnet but by the time i got it up it was gone and too dark to see anything.

Lizzie .....  HBV = Heater Bypass Valve

As I said ^^^  it controls the amount of hot water going to the heater matrix... more when you want warm air, less to none when you want cold air ...

All rubber construction, vaccuum controlled and prone to splitting .. some have big splits that leak like b*****s .. others have small leaks that only appear at certain settings so are difficult to trace.

It is right at the back of the V6 engine and folks like me with big hands  will a) get cut to ribbons b) put a lot of money in the swear box when changing one .. !!  :)

Steam could be the water dripping onto the exhaust...soon as you stop the car to look the pressure may well have dropped resulting in no leakage and so cant see where its coming from...or was the engine still running when you got out to look? Sounding very much like HBV area...I have one here thats ok but for the money they cost new you may as well get one from Vaux...

The HBV I have here in a box from VX is all plastic...???

got new one from vaux yesterday, just been out but its friggin cold so will wait till the winter to change it when its warmer   ;D ;D ;D
