Central locking
« on: 14 April 2008, 08:38:07 »

Hi there,

There is something wrong with the central locking on my '98 2.5 TD GLS and I can't figure out which part is going wrong!

The problem is with the driver's door - sometimes it locks and unlocks  fine with the remote, sometimes the knob refuses to budge. Sometimes the key works fine, other times it really takes a lot of force to lock / unlock (and there's a loud mechanical "ka-chunk" when it finally goes)

Taken the door apart and can hear motor whining when I use the remote lock, but nothing happens.

Do I need to replace the lock barrel, the solenoid, the entire motor?

Any ideas? Fed up having a luxury car and having to use a naff key to lock and unlock!

The drivers door locks do go a bit lazy sometimes.  Worth lubing the mech a bit as well.  I suspect you'll need a replacement motor though, but saying that, the fact that key is stiff implies no electrical assistance  :-/
