I think you need to explain what this noise was like a bit more.
Mechanical/rubbing/grating...

and where from - wheel area (front/back) ..?

I assume you mean when you are going along or do you mean it happens when stationary as well?

Is it a single "clunk" noise when you press the brake pedal with the ignition on ?? If so (as yours is an automatic) it could be the gear interlock solenoid, the one that prevents you taking it out of park without pressure on the brakes.

If it is not this, and the noise comes from inside without the ignition on, then I suggest its a "heads down in the footwell" to see what is going on.

its the solinoid for the gearbox lock which moves when you press the brake pedal so i would say its normal.
Has the noise always been there or have you just noticed it?

Yes as you press the brake pedal on and off you get a loudish click/clunk from the gearshift area.......this is normal ;)
Go and give it a try and report back, ignition must be on.

Surely the solenoid clock would only happen when in park (to enable selection of a 'gear')?   Can't remember without checking if it does in in drive too.
